We have prepared the list of best animated movies sequels ever, 2020 edition. Last year Walt Disney and Pixar released 2 animated sequels and both of them grossed over 1 billion dollar, also the second release Frozen 2 became the highest grossing animated film. But this time in 2020 Disney doesn’t have any sequels in their lineup (to know more about the upcoming Disney movies in 2019) this only has raised the question how much ground they will be able to cover which they had gained last year. This proves that sequels are so important but if they’re are really good is another question. And we have tried to answer it.

And this is not the first time we fell for the characters we love and the titles which have already established themselves. The result is we have so many established series almost dominating the box office, but only few time sequels surpassed their predecessors in every aspect and didn’t feel forced.

It’s predecessor Finding Nemo was a perfect classic movie with all the elements that forms Walt Disney Pictures, family friendly, Emotions, humor, stunning animation. But all these traits made it a not so sequel friendly movie. When Blue tang was back and reunited with it’s family it was questioned as a decision backed by financial reasons and question was raised if it even was necessary or not.

Soon after it’s release it sparked the argument that if it’s better than its predecessor with critics equally divided on this argument. But actually it managed to impress everyone and thus proving it’s existence. It managed to attract audience even with a predictable ending this makes it one of the best animated movies.

5. Frozen 2 2019

When movie was not even released it was almost certain that it would be another blockbuster, but pressure was immense on the animators as they were creating the sequel of the highest grossing animated movie ever. But the speculations were answered when it became the highest grossing animated movie ever by breaking the record set by it’s predecessor.

This success can be attributed to many things including it’s plot which discovered the character how they grew and evolved. It did enjoy the privileges being the Walt Disney’s main, but as we have seen so many times how even the biggest franchises sealed their fate by falling out of the audience’s taste. Let’s talk on the animation front, It almost represented the improvements in the animation over the decade, when we compares the Frozen (released in 2009) and Frozen 2 (released in 2019). It was a delight to see how the snow of land turned out into the land of beauty as the setting changed with the season of autumn.

4. Kung Fu Panda 2

Directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson

Po who is now a legend, a dragon warrior saved the China and has only one biggest weakness(stairs) must rediscover his past to foil the plans of a peacock with some serious firepower to destroy China and Kung Fu. 3. How to train your dragon 2

Directed by Dean DeBlois

With the first movie DreamWorks created a masterpiece with it’s breathtaking visuals and grand animation. But when it’s sequel was released it almost became an example of the world expansion. In this sequel they added several dimensions to it’s majestic dimensions and loving characters. It’s a thrilling experience to watch this movie with it’s humor and emotion, and lot of imagination in storytelling. It’s performance can also be interpreted from the fact that the expansion of the world and hype it created for it’s sequel actually paid off with a blockbuster sequel.

The thrilling second chapter of the epic HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON trilogy returns to the fantastical world of the heroic Viking Hiccup and his faithful dragon Toothless. The inseparable duo must protect the peace – and save the future of men and dragons from the power-hungry Drago.

2. Toy story 3

Toy story is one of the most successful animated franchise spanning over 24 years. Last year in 2019 toy story 4 earned over a billion dollars proving that it is still relevant. In fact each movie of this franchise was a success but Toy Story 3 was something we had got when we thought there was nothing left in this franchise. Before Andy leaves for college, his toys are mistakenly delivered to a day care centre. Woody convinces the other toys that they were not dumped and leads them on an expedition back home.

It managed to impress the critics as a genius movie with lots of emotions and humor often targeted at the fear of being left out.

1. Despicable me 2

Directed by Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud

A sequel which not only improved it’s predecessor but laid a strong foundation for a blockbuster franchise with potential billion dollar sequels and prequels and enjoys a cult following not only among kid but among adults alike. This installment made the best use of minions, arguably the most loved animated movie characters ever created and introduced the equally interesting characters to the movie.

The plot dealt with so many themes a bad guy who is no longer a bad guy, seperation from a best friend, lonliness, finding a perfect partner but instead of creating a mess it delivered a storyline which has a heart. Actually it’s not a sequel which had the most stunning animations, deepest storyline but it entertained the people of all ages.
